Tailoring Your Resume to the Job Youre Applying For Career Advice

Tailoring Your Resume to the Job Youre Applying For Career AdviceTailoring Your Resume to the Job Youre Applying For Career AdviceIf youre a recent graduate or are looking to switch career directions, a great job begins with the perfect resume. You know how great youd be at a particular job, but all your eignung employer knows about you is what they see on that one sheet of paper. Their first impression of you will come long before you actually meet in person, which is why it is so important to make your resume stand out above the rest when applying for a job you really want.First ImpressionThe job market is becoming more and more competitive, and odds are your potential employer has only a few seconds to look at your resume before deciding if youre a candidate theyd like to pursue for the specific position.A great way to catch an employers eye in the short time theyll spend on your resume is to use action verbs. When describing yourself as an employee, avoid cheesy clichs such as th at youre a go-getter who thinks outside the box/ Its much better to include what you actually achieved, created, or improved at your previous jobs, internships, etc.Of course, remember to use a professional, easy-to-read font and avoid using distracting colors. If your resume is hard to read, you can almost be sure the potential employer isnt going to spend the time trying to understand it.Tailoring Your ResumeOnce youve passed the resume eye test, youre one step closer to getting the job But thats when your resume must work even harder in your behalf. Nows the time when your resume will be more closely examined to see if you would actually be a good fit for the position youre applying for or leid.To make sure youll be noticed, it is extremely important to tailor your resume to the exact job youre applying for. In each job description companies post, they will list specific qualities they are looking for in the person who will hold that position. Research the company and what the po sition youre seeking is really all about. You can be the best fit for the position, but unless you know how to present your resume to cater to the specific position, the odds of actually landing the job are slim.Look at the qualities they are looking for and match those up with your achievements at previous jobs or volunteer experience. For example, if the job description says they are looking for someone who is a leader, be sure to clearly and concisely mention not just that youve been a leader in the past, but how youve shown your leadership skills. If youre a recent graduate, you can still tailor your resume to fit the job description even if youre lacking in previous job experience in the industry. If you havent had many or any job titles in the past that can relate to the position youre seeking, play up your skills and achievements that relate to the job. Be sure to include relevant experience even if it was unpaid, such as a related internship or volunteer work. What to IncludeT here are infinite ways to format your resume, but the most important parts of any resume should include current contact information, relevant experience relating to the job, educational background, and additional skills. Remember, your resume is the physical or electronic version of your biggest supporter, so make sure it represents your skills in the best way possible.See alsoTop List of Resume EssentialsWhile you shouldnt be afraid to brag about yourself and let them know why youre the best one for the job (in a classy way, of course), there are also a few things you should keep to yourself. Your resume is only one page of the most important details about your professional self, so save the precious space for what will really help you land the job. There is no need to include any details about race, religion, age, or political leanings within your resume. And if youre worried your potential employer might notice large gaps between jobs or that you didnt work while going to school, including explanations will only draw additional attention to them.Keep the job listing near you at all times while putting your resume together and include key words in your resume that seem critical to the job. Your resume will stand out if it shows you match the exact skills they are looking for in an employee to fill the particular position.Make It PerfectOnce youve finished creating a resume that is tailored to the specific job you want to land, get a friend, relative, and even a professional advisor or academic counselor to review it with you. The more eyes that look it over before you submit it to your potential employer, the lesser chance there is of a spelling, formatting, or other type of error. Once you know youve done all you can to represent yourself in the best way possible, the ball is in the employers court.Since you get just one chance at a first impression, remember that the best way to make a great first impression when it comes to a resume is to cater it to the position you are seeking. You will make them wonder how their company ever got along without you

Mr. Keys accomplishment would make a gre at KSA for Ability to WriteOn September 14, 1814, Francis Scott Key was on a ship eight miles down the Patapsco River (near the Key Bridge today). He had been sitting out there watching the bombardment of the British on Ft. McHenry all day and through the night. By early morning, he looked out and the huge flag was still waving in the breeze after twenty-five hours of heavy bombardment by the British. Key, who sometimes wrote religious poetry, was inspired to pen the poem (in the graphic below) that became the National Anthem in 1931.The Commander of Ft. McHenry, Colonel Armistead knew how important Ft. McHenry was to our nation in 1812. The British had just burned Washington (including the White House and the Capitol Building) and were advancing toward Baltimore. The Commander felt that the Baltimoreans were discouraged and afraid for their city. He felt that they would have their spirits raised by seeing a huge, high flying flag at Fort McHenry as a symbol of defiance. The Defence of Fort McHenry, poem by Francis Scott Key, published in the Patriot on September 20, 1814.Colonel Armistead commissioned Mary Youngs Pickersgill, a local seamstress and flag maker to make two flags for Fort McHenry in 1813 a large flag and a smaller one to fly in bad weather. She was paid $500 for both flags, the large one being 30 x 42 feet, so it could be seen from a great distance. She was asked to sew a flag with 15 stars and 15 stripes, the number of states then in the Union. (My grandmother was a seamstress and flag maker with a famous flag maker in Baltimore City from 1910 until 1940. I wonder if this is the saatkorn flagmaker?)The 15-star, 15-stripe flag was authorized by the Flag Act of January 13, 1794, adding 2 stripes and 2 Stars. The regulation went into effect on May 1, 1795. This flag was the only U.S. Flag to have more than 13 stripes. It was immortalized by Francis Scott Key during the bombardment of Fort McHenry, Sept 13, 1814. The image above is representative of the actual flag that flew over Fort McHenry on that day and which is now preserved in the Smithsonian Museum. You can notice the tilt in some of the stars just as in the original Star Spangled Banner.Personally, I am inspired by Francis Scott Keys experience, the flag, Ft. I was on a British vessel flagged for truce by the future President Jackson, on my way to pick up a captured friend in Marlborough. We got as far as the mouth of the Patuxent and then we were not permitted to return lest an intended attack on Baltimore by the British should be disclosed. We were brought up the Bay just across from Fort McHenry and there we were compelled to witness the bombardment of Fort McHenry, which the Admiral had boasted that he would carry in a few hours, and that the city must fall.Challenge We watched the flag at the Fort through the whole day with more than 500 bombs from British ships to Ft. McHenry. In the night the smaller weather flag was flying while we watched the Bomb shells in darkness not knowing that the American Military had secretly planned 4 barges, which the British did not detect. These barges attached the British militia and sent them running, some with tugs assisting. At the early dawn our eyes were surprising greeted by the proudly the 15-star flag of our country (late to be known as the Star Spangled Banner).Actions By morning, I was compelled to pen a poem that reflected my thoughts of the war and particularly of the flag, Oh say can you see by the dawns early light was my first thought.I wrote four verses that reflected topics about the day before and my vision of the flag in the morning. The first verse reviews the dawns light and the flag with broad stripes and bright stars that was still flying in the morning the second verse reviews the dread silence and how the flag was fitfully blowing the third verse reviews the havoc of war and the battles confusion and the final and fourth verse celebrates the victory and peace that preserved our nation. Results I witnessed the last enemy fire to fall on Fort McHenry and in this memory, I wrote the poem Defence of Fort McHenry has been renamed to The Star-Spa ngled Banner and has become a well-known American patriotic song. The poem and song were recognized for official Navy use in 1931 and became the national them by a congressional entscheidung on March 3, 1931 and signed by President Herbert Hoover. This KSA was written by Kathryn Troutman, Author, Federal Resume Guidebook, 6th Ed. The Interview Compel with Your Character

The Interview Compel with Your CharacterThe Interview Compel with Your CharacterThe most quietly compelling way to impress at an interview is to display your character while highlighting what you can bring to the table. When our perspective shifts to giving rather than receiving, the interview experience for both sides will immediately change for the better. Here is how to apply this method to three of the most popular interview questionsSo tell me about yourself.Stepping into the interviewers shoes Pulling out your sell yourself answer cards. Ask yourself, how would the company and interviewer benefit from hiring me? Scott Ginsbergs article addresses that one of the most effective ways of answering this question is to pinpoint three words to describe yourself with. If you spielblttchen the right words, you may also be hitting two birds with one stone when the interviewer tries to gage your soft skills. How do we exhibit solid soft skills and humble character when trying to impress a n interviewer? The key is to employ the show, not tell approach in our word choices.Aim for descriptive, specific, and active words or even phrases. Dont just tell your interviewer that you are smart. You can say, I am an inductive, quantitative thinker, I work quickly but methodologically, or I am boldly logical in my reasoning skills. These types of words show what kind of thinker you are.Dont just say youre personable. Pick words that describe specific traits that have helped you become more personable. You could say, I always try to be a considerate colleague and friend, or I tend to be an optimist even in the worst of situations, which you could further back up with specific stories or examplesI once worked on a project with a colleague who was struggling with severe anxiety after experiencing a traumatic event. Instead of asking my supervisor for another project partner, I decided to encourage and work with him the best I could since I understood where he was coming from. Despit e some difficulties, we ended up endschliff the project together successfully. This story would immediately show your interviewer a clearer picture of your character and that you have humility, instead of you having to directly tell them. What has been your greatest weakness/failure?Exhibit humility and self-awareness without selling yourself short. While you should certainly avoid the eye-roll-inducing perfectionist, also try to predict what angle the interviewer is coming from when asking this question. Usually it is not to jar you, or trick you into answering brutally honestly. Rather, as Rob Sullivan wrote in his article, the interviewer wants to know what it is that you could improve on, as we all have something. Dont just try to say what you think they want to hear. Know that they are asking for a meaningful answer.Be refreshing reveal something that people who dont like you would say about you.You could say, people who I have had trouble getting along with in the past would pro bably say that I tend to assume people always know what is going on in my head, which can lead to miscommunication. Think of times when you have been seen as unappealing to those who didnt know you well, which may have resulted in social tension at the office.Tell a story about a time when you underperformed. One time I got so nervous during a presentation that I completely dropped the ball and costed my kollektiv a contract with an important client. Ever since then, Ive been doing all that I can to calm my nerves in such situations.Give buildable and genuine examples. Always follow up with how youve learned and intend to continue improving. Be self-aware, reflective, and honest, but not self-condemning.What questions do you have for us?Top priority seek out what ways you can give to the team of thinkers that youre hoping to join. This question is oftentimes the trickiest and most telling of the candidates character and intentions. Red flags will pop up when the candidate replies with questions about the pay, the vacation, perks, promotions, or other self-seeking what can I get from this types of questions. The best questions tend to be thoughtful, professional ones concerning the team youd join, and optimally, the interviewer.Find some inspiration from Marc Cenedellas list of questions, such as What keeps you up at night? or How can this position help achieve success for the company?Ask the obvious but thoughtful question what are they looking for? Dont be shy to ask questions about what they are looking for as well, so you have a clearer picture of how you could better optimize your skills for their greatest needs.

How to Apply to Arts Organizations for Music Funding

How to Apply to Arts Organizations for Music FundingHow to Apply to Arts Organizations for Music FundingWhen it comes to your music project, chances are you have the idea, but you may be a little light on the cash to carry it out. Thats where music business kenntniserlangunging comes in. The process of obtaining funding from arts organizations is highly competitive and theres rarely enough money to go around. Dont expect to rely on loans and grants from arts groups as your projects sole or primary source of funding. And, keep in mind that depending on geography and other demographics, noeveryone has access to this sort of music industry funding. But if you do have access, loans and grants from arts organizations are worth seeking out as supplemental sources of income. Here are a few tips to get your application as ready as possible. Be Clear About Your Goals This may sound obvious, but clearly identifying your goals will help you decide where to apply for funding, and will help k eep you focused when going through the application process. Most funders will want a very specific project, so rather than looking for help funding my band youre better looking for something specific like funding the recording of an album or funding to publicize a tour. Get Used to Writing Your Proposal Succinctly This is useful because getting something written down is a good way to help you work out exactly what youre looking for funding for, and if you cant write it in fewer than 50 words, it may be too vague. Funders will want a brief description to help them get an idea of the project before they read the full application form, and to use in any reklame materials. The summary should explain what the project is, why the funder will fund it and what makes your project unique. Follow Directions Carefully Make sure you know exactly what the application process is for each organization and what the deadlines are. Most organizations will require you to fill out an application form. Read through the application form several times and make sure you understand exactly what they want for each part of the application. If you have any doubts or questions, contact them and ask. Up to 10 percent of applications are rejected because the applicant hasnt followed the correct application process. Most applications will require a detailed description of your project, including a specific budget. This description should explain what you are trying to achieve and why they should provide you funding to do it. Make sure this is detailed, but dont go into any more detail than theyve asked for. If they ask for one page, make sure you stick within that limit. The music business funders will likely be reviewing hundreds of applications, so dont overwhelm them with more information than theyve requested. Draw up a timeline for when certain aspects of the project will be completed. Its important to remember that fruchtwein funds will only fund new projects - that means projec ts that havent started by the time the application process has finished. Make sure youre timeline fits in with the funders criteria and is realistic, as it might form part of a legally binding agreement. Check and Double-Check When youve filled in your application, check the whole form through and ask someone to proofread it for you, before giving it one final read yourself. Almost all funders are oversubscribed, but no matter how worthy of funding your project is if you havent supplied all the details theyve asked for, your application may be rejected. When you send an application, send it at least a few days before the deadline to ensure it arrives in time. If possible, deliver the application in person. If sending it by mail, ideally send it by courier or by guaranteed delivery. Most organizations wont return submitted material, so dont send original documents. Most organizations will confirm theyve received your application. If you havent heard from the funder, theres no har m in checking in with them to confirm receipt, but dont pester them. It may be weeks or even months before a decision is made. In the meantime, make plans to continue with the project if the funding doesnt come through. If You Get Funding Congratulations on receiving funding. At this point, most funders will ask you to sign a formal contract stating what they will pay you, and when, and what they expect from you. If you think your project may change, make sure you keep the funders informed. Most funders will disburse monies when certain milestones are met, but some may not pay you until the project is completed, so be clear on the terms. If You Dont Get Funding Even if your project met all the criteria, it may not be funded. You should have a backup plan in case funding doesnt come through. Contact the organization and find out why your application failed, and if you can re-apply. Dont harass them, however. Theyll have lots of failed applicants, so their time is limited.

4 Ways to Find Standout Four Leaf Clover Job Candidates

4 Ways to Find Standout Four Leaf Clover Job CandidatesHiring managers face a steep hill battle when looking for qualified job candidates. A 2016 study by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) reported that 68 percent of HR professionals across industries are having problems with recruiting in the current talent market. Half of the organizations surveyed cited factors such as a low number of applicants (51 percent), lack of the needed work experience (50 percent), and competition from other employers (49 percent) as the primary reasons for this struggle. With job pools filled to the brim with both good and not-so-good job candidates, it can take a great deal of time and dedication to find the best person for the job. And, occasionally, a little bit of luck. So, how do hiring managers identify the best fit? How do they sift through so many job candidates and still know when a person is truly great for a punkt? Here are four ways to identify four leaf clover job candidates in todays crowded applicant pools1. Standouts can be found anywhere. When it comes to finding top talent, we use team members to refer friends and former colleagues as one of our best sources of referral. Our CEO Deborah Sweeney found one of her mom friends from preschool to start with a small finance-related project. She thought she would make an excellent leader in that department due to her work ethic, efficient manner, and can-do attitude. She was promoted from the project to full-time, and then to our corporate finance manager. She stuck out right away as a can-do, efficient, detail-oriented person. She had a great attitude and was responsive and kind. I knew she would be a great employee and it turned out to be mora than accurate. When weve found a candidate that binnenseems like he or she will be a good hire based on resume, interviews, and cultural fit, we engage them in a test project. This is a project where the candidate works for a week or two (paid) on a project of either our design or one that they have thought up for themselves. 3 Tips On How To Handle Rejection

3 Tips On How To Handle Rejection3 Tips On How To Handle Rejectionemployers dont respond after an interviewcan be frustrating and terrifying. However, in the past few months, I somehow learned to befriend rejection. Now, the world has opened up to me like never before. I believe this can apply to any job search effort.Nine months ago, I quit my full time job to become an entrepreneur. Soon enough I had to face the cold reality of getting a lot of rejections from potential investors, employees and customers. Realizing how hard it welches for me to deal with rejection, I decided to see it face-to-face and go through a 100 Days of Rejection Therapy. The rejection therapy concept is based on going out and actively seeking rejections. Never in my life would I have thought how crazy this experience could be In the last several months I asked the strangest things from random people, such as Olympic-shaped donuts, giving a college lecture, and a private jet ride from a billionaire.I learned th at rejection is leid only very subjective, but can be useful and even fun. Here is what I learned about how to handle rejection related to job searches.Focus on action, leid rejection.Stack the odds in your favor by focusing on your action, not others rejections. Based on how many people usually compete for a desirable job, getting rejected is not only common, but also probably, if not mathematically certain. However, if you persist in your efforts, even after the rejections, without giving up or slowing down, you are stacking the odds in your favor. For example, lets assume you are competing with 20 equally qualified people for a posted position, your odds of getting rejected are 95% (1-1/20). However, if you do it 50 times, the odds of getting rejected 50 times are 7.7%, which is a very rare outcome. For 100 times, it would be 0.6%, which is pretty much impossible. Furthermore, if you keep applying, you will learn to get better with resume and interview skills, so the probability wi ll be further in your favor. Its basic mathFocus on what you can control, which is how many positions you can apply for per day, instead of what you cant control, which is how many interviews and offers you are getting. After a while, rejection becomes a number, instead of an emotionally devastating obstacle.Minimize the risks for the other party. In one of my crazy requests, I was able to find a one-day job in one afternoon by dropping into random business offices. One key takeaway was that by reducing perceived risks, one can get a yes easier. In my case, I offered to work for free for one day, which eliminated all the financial, contractual and time obligations associated with normal employment. When I actually reported to work for one day, I established many relationships and friendships that I wouldnt have had otherwise.Of course, I am not advocating everyone to conduct their job search this way. However, when applying for jobs, make sure to use the flex in If the full-time job market is tight, consider expanding your search into contract-based jobs to reduce your potential employers risks. Many of the most successful employees I know earned their full-time jobs by succeeding and impressing at contract jobs.Dont be afraid to use creativity. In another episode, I encountered a job searcher who was holding a sign at South By Southwest that read Drop Your Business Card for A option to Employ Me. During our conversation, I learned that he collected more than 20 business cards in a span of few hours. I dont know whether he eventually landed a job that way, but he did established more than 20 valuable relationships that didnt exist before. For job-seekers, relationships through networking are crucial. If you are applying for jobs that require any type of creativity, you should not be afraid to demonstrate it in your job-searching process. You will not only differentiate yourself from the crowd, but also have fun in the process.Due to the fear of rejections, we are often overly careful with our job-searching process, and many times to our detriment. If we liberate ourselves from the outcomes and focus on what we can control, our job-search efforts will become not only much more effective but even funReaders, how do youhandle rejection from a job? Air Medal in the Armed Forces of the United States

Air Medal in the Armed Forces of the United StatesAir Medal in the Armed Forces of the United StatesThe Air Medal is awarded to a person serving with the Army that has tischset himself/herself apart from his/her comrades by meritorious achievement while involved in aerial flight. The award may be made upon the acknowledgment of single acts of merit or heroism, or for meritorious service. The award of the Air Medal is chiefly meant to acknowledge either a current crew member or non-crew member whose principal duties include regular flight. 01Physical Description of the Air MedalTetra Images/Getty ImagesThe Air Medal is a bronze compass rose of 1 11/16 inches diameter. An eagle holding two bolts of lightning in its talons is charged in downward attacking flight. It is held to the suspension reif at the top by a fleur-de-lis. On the reverse side of the medal, there is a space available for the name of the recipient to be engraved. The points of the compass rose are modeled.02Air Medal R ibbonThe ribbon of the Air Medal is 1 3/8 inches wide and has five stripes. The first stripe is 1/8 inch of ultramarine blue, the second is 1/4 inch of golden orange, the middle is 5/8 inch ultramarine blue, the fourth 1/4 inch golden orange and the last is 1/8 inch ultramarine blue.03Criteria Required to Be Awarded the Air MedalTo be awarded the medal, the recipient must have made an evident contribution to the operational land combat mission or to the mission of the aircraft in flight. Those in attack elements of units engaged in air-land assaults against an armed enemy and those directly engaged in airborne command and run of combat operations are among those who may be considered. The measure of heroism, meritorious accomplishment, or commendable service, however, will determine who will be awarded the Air Medal. It will not be awarded to anyone who uses air transportation only for the means of traveling from place to place, even within a combat zone.04Background of the Air Medal AwardOn March 9th, 1942, the Secretary of War wrote a letter to the Director, Bureau of Budget, suggesting an executive order creating the Air Medal for award to any person who, while serving in any capacity of the Army of the United States, set himself/herself apart by meritorious achievement while involved in an aerial flight. It welches noted that the Distinguished Flying Cross is available only for heroism or extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight ... It is desired not to cheapen the Distinguished Flying Cross by awarding it for achievement not bordering on the heroic. It is, however, important to reward personnel for meritorious service. On May 11, 1942, President Roosevelt authorized the Air Medal by Executive Order 9158 and established the award for any person who, while serving in any capacity in the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard of the United States subsequent to September 8, 1939, distinguishes, or has distinguished, himself by meritorious achievement while participating in an aerial flight. This later was amended to include in any capacity in or with the Army.On December 31, 1942, artist Walker Hancocks blueprint for the medals design was approved by the Secretary of War.At the inception of the award of the Air Medal, oak leaf clusters were used to show previous awards of the medal. In September of 1968, the procedure was changed to demand the use of numbers to show previous awards, as it was soon evident that with as many awards as were awarded, that the oak leaf clusters would not fit on the ribbon.During times of peace, the Air Medal may be awarded, but the approval authority for an award at this time is not given to field commanders.

How to Say No to Your Boss Without Being Rude - The Muse

How to Say No to Your Boss Without Being Rude - The MuseHow to Say No to Your Boss Without Being Rude Your boss asks you to take on a new project, and your first thought is There is just no way. Maybe its because youre already juggling three projects near deadline, or maybe you fundamentally disagree with his strategy.Sure, you could try to just power through all of the projects or propose something you think a client wouldnt be interested in, but you probably know thats neither the best nor the most professional option.Pushing back on a request from your boss can be intimidating (especially if you work for someone whos, lets say, not the most receptive to answers outside the realm of Of courseWhenwould you likeit completed?), but the truth is, its significantly better than setting yourself up to fail. The trick is to push back mora diplomatically- getting your point across without actually using the word no.Read on for how to approach some commonsituations,as well as one time you shou ldprobably justsayyes.Situation You Truly Dont Have the TimeInstead of Theres No Way I Have Time for ThatTry Could You Help Me Prioritize My Project List? While, No, I dont have time, seems like a perfectly legit response when youre up to your elbows in other work, it can also make your boss question your ability to capably prioritize and execute the tasks that are on your plate. So, this is the time to remember, Show, dont tell. Respond to your boss by saying, Could you help me prioritize my project list? In that meeting, lay out what youre working on, how long its taking, and what you would have to delay or stop doing in buchung to take on the new task. The best thing about this approach is that, along with demonstrating everything on your plate, youre giving your boss the opportunity to weigh in on whats most important. That way, if the new project can be passed off or held for later, it likely will be, and if it needs your attention now, you have full permission to de-prioritize so mething else.Situation You Disagree With the Strategy at HandInstead of I Dont Think Thatll WorkSay Can I Throw Out Another Idea?Even if youre thinking, No, I would never take that approach with this client- how could you even consider that? remember that the abrasive approach is not terribly conducive to brainstorming new ideas.Instead, try, Can I throw out another idea? One of two things happens when you ask a question like that- clearly, your boss says yes or no. But heres the amazing part If your boss says yes (which happens mora often than not) she has welcomed you to contribute a new approach before you even start in, which means shes much more likely to consider it.If she says No- this is the way were doing it, you know shes serious about the proposed strategy, despite your reservations. (At this point, you have to ask yourself if youre comfortable assuming she has some additional context or end game or- only on the most important occasions- jump to, I hear this is not the ti me for new ideas, but I have a serious concern, namely...)Situation You Just Dont Want ToInstead of Ugh, NoSay Sure (Usually)Someone has to arrive mega-early for an upcoming event. Someone needs to work late the night before. Someone needs to drop what he or she is doing and run to Kinkos. Whether youre on a small staff or facing a busy time of year, there are times when your boss asks you to do a bit extra, and part of you just wants to say, Isnt there someone else who could do it?Fact is, though, no one will consider you a team player if you disappear when its time to pitch in, and you dont want to be known as the employee who thinks hes above it. So, in general, its important to say yes when completing a nuisance task will be little more than, well, a nuisance. That said, you can still say no if the task will distract you from your other projects (see situation 1) or if you are disproportionately the one asked and feel as though youre being taken advantage of.If thats the case, in lieu of no, remind your boss how frequently youve been given odd jobs lately and include how you could better use that time. For example, Perhaps someone else could take the early shift this event- Ive prepped the room for the last two, and would love to take that time tomorrow to... By speaking clearly- but without the letters n and o- youre finding a way to get your point across without making your boss get defensive. That way, you keep the focus where it should be (that everyone wants the best results) and wont get caught up in who decides how things are done.
