On the off chance that youre utilizing a word processor, theres no explanation not to utilize the inherent spelling and sentence structure check include. Remember, be that as it may, that this component wont fundamentally get abused words that are spelled accurately (i.e., the right type of whose versus whos, or incidentally utilizing the word trough rather than chief). In like manner, your assertion processor may signal formal people, places or things or corporate terms. To guarantee youve got each expected blunder, physically edit your resume after youve let your PC do its stuff. 2. Consider Adding a Headline A scout will possibly spend a few seconds auditing a resume to check whether its a match. A skewed segment, for instance, can be deciphered by the peruser as an indication of indiscretion. 5. Include Some Accomplishments Posting what you do on an everyday premise in your activity is a beginning stage, however remembering your achievements for each position shows what sort of significant worth youre equipped for adding to a business. Quantifiable achievements (i.e., expanded deals 40 percent) are incredible, yet in addition consider including a portion of the less substantial things youve done that improved your bosses execution. Did you make and execute forms where none existed? Is it accurate to say that you were ready to help create individuals on your staff through preparing and tutoring? 6. Stay away from the Personal Stuff In the United States, you shouldnt incorporate your image, date of birth, or government managed savings number on your resume. In like manner, forget about strict affiliations or whatever else that welcomes unlawful or improper examination by a business. On the off chance that youre going after a position that includes extended periods of time or travel and you volunteer on your resume that you have three youngsters, a one-sided peruser may begin pondering, Geez, is this individual going to miss a ton of work or routinely need to leave ahead of schedule because of childcare issues? Dont Quit Your Job Yet 2 Ways to Tap Into Your Intuition

Dont Quit Your Job Yet 2 Ways to Tap Into Your Intuition Not too long ago, I took a  leap of faith I quit. I was working in the government sector and wanted to work in a completely opposite fieldcombining energy healing with life coaching. Despite how irrational my choice may have seemed on the surface, especially with 20 years left on my mortgage, things panned out much better than expected. Prior to making each leap, I tapped into my intuition. We all have it, but doesn’t mean it’s easy to sort through the inner debating committee chatter and really hear what our instinctive feeling, that inner voice, is trying to tell us. So let’s get into what actions you can take right now to get you closer to your dream career (while tapping into your intuition each step of the way)! Dont Quit Your Job Yet: 2 Ways to Tap Into Your Intuition 1. Get your foot in the door with an internship, volunteer position or part-time job in the industry you want to be working in. For instance, say you are an investment banker and your passion is photography. You decided you want to make a switch to be a wedding photographer. Then seek a position with wedding event planners, even if it’s unpaid! It may be hard to make a living being a wedding photographer right off the bat, especially if you haven’t been doing it full-time. So the least you can do is get your foot in the door of the industry that you are trying to get into to. It’s easy to get caught up in going after the shiny object or the first job that comes your way right after you resign from your job. Typically this will still be in the same industry as the one you are trying to quit. But if you really want to make the change, the best way forward is to get your foot in the door first, even if this means a huge pay cut. I was overwhelmed with all the opportunities that came my way because they paid at least 30% more than my last job. But all the opportunities were still in the same industry that I was trying to leave behind. Instead, I took on employment at the local studio teaching free community classes and getting paid minimum wage working at the front desk. This allowed me to network among yoga teachers and studio owners, which in turn created synergy with my business of combining energy healing (which goes hand-in-hand with yoga) and life coaching. 2. Introduce yourself using the title of your dream profession. For instance, using the last scenario, rather than saying “I’m unemployed” or “I was an investment banker”, tell people you are a wedding photographer. When you start doing this, you are putting out there your services and letting others respond accordingly, whether it’s telling you about a friend who is getting married or keeping you in mind the next time they come across someone getting married. Prior to even leaving my 9-5, I told people I was a yoga teacher, even when I was still in the midst of my certification training. I taught a few classes but it didn’t mean I was a seasoned teacher by any means. Nevertheless, this opened up so many conversations about opportunities in the yoga industry. Once I quit my 9-5, I continued to introduce myself as a yoga teacher and included Reiki practitioner and life coach in my introduction. By doing so, I attracted a number of leads and most importantly, it allowed me to get my services out there. In addition, saying out loud helped me mentally, emotionally, and energetically prepare for the next chapter of my career as saying it out loud made my ideal profession become “real.” Wishing you all the best in the next chapter of your life!

5 things to do once you join a LinkedIn Group. Career Coach JobJenny

5 things to do once you join a LinkedIn Group. Career Coach JobJenny This is the last in a 4-part series on LinkedIn for job search / career networking. It's also an excerpt from our just launchedRidiculously Awesome LinkedIn Kit.If you missed the first three posts, they're rightHERE,HEREandHERE.Congratulations. You've joined a few LinkedIn Groups. But what are you doing with them? Anything? If you're not participating in LinkedIn Groups, you're cheating yourself out of one of the best features of LinkedIn. This is relevant for both job seekers, and all professionals. But many people are confused about what exactly they're supposed to do once they're in a Group. Here are a 5 things you can do once you join a LinkedIn Group:1. Engage in conversations within the Group discussions. For heaven's sake, don’t be a wallflower. One of the easiest ways to get noticed by fellow Group members, and get to know some of the participants â€"who may be extremely beneficial to your job searchâ€" is to jump into the discussions. Scroll through and find a post of interes t, and then weigh in with some thoughtful input, a question, or other some other worthy commentary.2. Post your own questions or share content in the discussions. You can also start discussion threads. Post your own questions specific to your industry or a particular company. Or share an article that’s relevant to the Group’s members. While #1 and #2 won’t necessarily generate instant results, you can bet that frequent interaction will put you on the radar of fellow Group members. An added bonus is that, each time you make a comment or post a discussion, the people in your own network will see (in their News Feed) that you’ve posted something in that group as well. This helps you stay top of mind with your own people, and gives them a constant reminder that you’re someone who is passionate, engaged and intelligent in your specific area of expertise. If you’re able to be a non-cloaked job seeker (as in, you’re not secretly looking for a job), you may also ask specific ques tions (or post a discussion thread) that makes clear your interest in finding a new opportunity. Again, don’t do this if you’re trying to fly under the radar. Realize that you’re posting on a public forum; your people will see this.3. Check out jobs specific to your areas of interest and expertise.Within each Group, you will find a “Jobs” tab. This is where recruiters, hiring managers and HR people post job openings within their organizations. It’s a wonderful way for those doing the hiring to target a very specific group of professionals; they post regularly within relevant niche Groups. If you’re an active job seeker, you should absolutely keep an eye on the jobs being posted within the Groups most relevant to your area(s) of expertise and your specific geography.4. Contact (and connect with) fellow Group members. If you’ve picked your Groups thoughtfully, these are your people. So, by all means, start chatting it up with the participants you feel will be particularl y interesting or useful. Most people, when approached in a genuine, non-ambushy way, will respond favorably to someone with whom they share a Group connection. And the coolest part is that you can email your fellow Group members directly through LinkedIn, via your mutual affiliation. You don’t have to send them an invite to join your network, nor an inMail.Keep this little ditty in mind if you ever find someone on LinkedIn that you’re dying to meet, yet don’t know the best way to approach. Here’s a useful trick:Scroll down that person’s profile page, see what Groups she is in, and join one of the same ones. Voila. You have an instant way to chat directly with her. I often approach with something like:“Hi Susan, You and I are both members of the Portland Entrepreneurs Group here on LinkedIn. I am so impressed by the way you are marketing your services via Twitter. Well done! May I ask you a quick question about your social media strategy?”Of course, you’d frame that no te in a way that is specific to your interests / needs, but you see the point. 4 Tips For Staying Productive During The Holidays - Work It Daily

4 Tips For Staying Productive During The Holidays - Work It Daily It’s not just the holiday season â€" it’s hiring season. Many companies’ end-of-year budgets allow for hiring at the very start of the new year. Because January is one of the top months for hiring, now is the time to be diligent and step up your efforts. If, like me, you get stuck at a relative’s house that lacks a decent high-speed Internet connection, there are still many (offline) ways to stay productive in your job search. Here are some job search tips for staying productive during the holidays. 1. Update Your Resume Chances are, you haven’t put much effort into your resume since you began your very first job search years ago. Take an hour to tweak every little bullet point. A few tips: Point out specific accomplishments for each job description. Quadruple check for any misspellings or grammatical errors â€" these mistakes can get your resume quickly tossed into the trash. Cut out the clutter and add what you really want the hiring manager to see â€" your resume might only be given a cursory glance. A polished, updated resume can place you far above the competition. The little investment of time can pay off significantly. 2. Network At Holiday Parties You probably have a few cocktail parties, cookie exchanges and family get-togethers penciled in on your calendar. And there’s really not a more perfect way to network (and potentially get a job offer). Come prepared with your elevator pitch â€" including your accomplishments and career goals. Bring a couple business cards in your wallet in case you find the right person to give one to. Enjoy yourself, but go easy on the alcohol â€" there’s nothing less professional than being too tipsy. They say job offers are all about “who you know.” Introducing and selling yourself could help you meet someone who is hiring (or at least someone who knows someone who is hiring). 3. Give Hiring Managers A Ring The next-best thing about the holidays (the best being vacation days) is a reduced workload. For most businesses, tasks slowdown during the holidays. Now is the time to give that hiring manager a call. While most people e-mail, a conversation over the phone could help you beat the competition â€" if you’re prepared. Ask specific questions about the job, know every little detail about the company and be prepared for any interview-like questions. Best of all â€" this is the time when a lot of people “give up” on their job search. With fewer competitors, a job offer could be just a call away. 4. Volunteer â€" ‘Tis The Season! With all the vacation days you get to enjoy, take a couple of them helping others. Nonprofits usually have more than the usual amount of opportunities during this time. Whether it’s volunteering with the skills you have, like redesigning a website for a nonprofit, or simply giving back to the community with traditional volunteering, it could help your job search. Not only does volunteering make you feel good, it could advance your career. You’ll practice old skills or gain new ones. You’ll network with others who, again, might be hiring or know someone who is. Enjoy this article? You've got time for another! 4 Tips for Restarting Your Career After a Long Break

4 Tips for Restarting Your Career After a Long Break We now live in a post-job-for-life world, where sabbaticals, contingent work, self-employment, long-term unemployment, andmultiple career changes are all the new normal. This state of affairs hascreated record levels of career mobility but it has also lead to more uneven career paths. Extended breaks from the workforce used to be pretty uncommon, but these days, theyre not all that unusual.Unfortunately, returning to work after a break from your career poses a unique challenge, which is why wed like to offer some tips to help you reanimate your career after a long time away.1. Start Networking to Access the Hidden Job MarketSources suggest that as many as 80 percent of available jobsare never publicly advertised. These secret openings comprise the hidden job market and the only way to tap into this market is by networking smartly. Two to threemo nths before you plan to return to work, start talking to friends, family members, former coworkers, and so on, about kompetenzprofil opportunities they may know of. Chances are that at least one of them will know about and maybe even refer you to an unadvertised job opening. If you can get into the running early and with a glowing reference then you greatly increase your chances of landing the job.2. Get Plenty of RecommendationsEven if your network cant help you find a position in the hidden job market, it can probably help you find the next best thing an influential inside contact who can vouch for your character and skill.Having an influential contact on your side is a great thing, as studies show that people who are referred are twice as likely to be called to interview and 40 percent more likely to be offered a job.If you do find a strong contact at a company youd like to work for, consider sending in a speculative application, using your reference boost your appeal and get on the employers radar. However, you dont want to just drop the references name. Rather, you want to ensure that the reference is actually attesting to a particular skill or valuable business quality that you possess. If your reference is just a flashy name, your speculative application wont garner any attention.3. Emphasize Your Transferable SkillsMany employers (and job seekers) wrongly assume that long-term unemployment always leads to a loss of skills. The reality, however, is that a long break away from the workplace can actuallyboostyour skills. For example,a survey from CareerBuilderfound that taking a career break to be a stay-at-home parent for a while helps people develop some highly valuable skills. More than 66 percent of hiring managers surveyed by CareerBuilder said that parenting skills can be very relevant to the corporate world. Some examples of highly valued parenting skills includePatienceAbility to multitaskTime managementConflict managementProblem-solvingEmpathyMe ntoringNegotiationBudgeting and finance managementProject managementDespite the value of these parenting skills, just 8 percent of parents mention these skills in their applications, meaning many parents are missing a greatopportunity to impress prospective employers. So, if you are a parent returning to work after a long break, make sure to play up your highly valuable parenting skills during the application and interview processes.4. Emphasize What You Have LearnedAs mentioned above, a career break can be a great way to develop new skills. No matter what those skills are or how you learned them be sure to emphasize them in your resume. For example, perhaps you did a little freelance work while you were away from your career, and this has helped you develop greater levels of business acumen. Or perhaps you used your free time to teach yourself a new language or some coding skills.Whatever the case, you want to be positive and give employers the impression that your life away from th e workforce has benefited you. Moreover, you want employers to know that youll be able to pass along these benefits to them if they hire you, that is.-There is no doubt that coming back from a career break is a unique challenge, but with a positive approach and a finely tunedjob search strategy, you should be able to pick your career up where you left off with relative ease.
